UPDATED: 14 area teams qualify for state basketball playoffs

Each season, every high school basketball team dreams of making a run to a state championship.
But only a select few will get that opportunity each season.
On Friday, 14 area teams found out that they will have a chance to make that dream a reality, as the Louisiana High School Athletic Association released playoff brackets in all classes for boys and girls basketball.
Locally, eight boys teams and six girls teams earned a spot in the state playoffs.
The bi-district playoff matchups are:
--No. 26 South Lafourche at No. 7 Natchitoches-Central, 7 p.m. Tuesday
--No. 27 H.L. Bourgeois at No. 6 Westgate,7 p.m. Monday
--No. 30 Terrebonne at No. 3 Airline, 7 p.m. Tuesday
--No. 24 Belaire at No. 9 Vandebilt Catholic, 4 p.m. Monday (tentative)
--No. 20 Plaquemine at No. 13 Ellender, 7 p.m. Tuesday
--No. 26 Caldwell Parish at No. 7 E.D. White Catholic, 6 p.m. Tuesday
--No. 30 St. James at No. 3 Carroll, 7 p.m. Tuesday
--No. 22 Mt. Hermon at No. 11 Houma Christian
--No. 21 Terrebonne at No. 12 Sulphur, 7 p.m. Monday
--No. 31 Tara at No. 2 Vandebilt Catholic, 1 p.m. Monday
--No. 21 Washington-Marion at No. 12 Assumption, 6 p.m. Monday
--No. 23 Ellender at No. 10 Beau Chene, 6:30 p.m. Monday
--No. 30 E.D. White Catholic at No. 3 St. James, 7 p.m. Monday
Bi-district playoff games must be completed by Monday for the girls and Tuesday for the boys. The playoff’s regional round must be completed by Feb. 24 in the boys and girls brackets. The quarterfinals must be completed by Feb. 27 for the girls and Feb. 28 for the boys.
Under the LHSAA’s new playoff format for all classes, the boys and girls semifinal games will be played from March 1-3 at three locations — Southeastern Louisiana University’s University Center in Hammond, University of Louisiana-Monroe’s Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe and the Lake Charles Civic Center.
The boys and girls state championship games will be played from March 8-10 at Louisiana Tech University’s Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston.
