This week's prep baseball/softball report

GAMES OF THE WEEK
With all the other area softball and baseball teams already having started district play, the baseball teams in districts 7-5A, 7-3A and 10-1A get their respective leagues cranked up this week.
District openers on Tuesday in 7-5A include Westgate at Terrebonne, H.L. Bourgeois at Central Lafourche and Thibodaux at New Iberia.
Also on Tuesday, Port Allen is at St. James in a district opener in 7-3A, and E.D. White Catholic is at Brusly in another District 7-3A opener.
The baseball team at Houma Christian beings District 10-1A play on Tuesday at St. Martin's.
Also on Tuesday, South Terrebonne is at Assumption in baseball and both teams are 1-0 in District 8-4A.
On Thursday in District 7-3A softball, Brusly is at E.D. White in a battle of two teams who currently only have one district loss.
Also on Thursday, South Lafourche opens its baseball district season at 6 p.m. at Terrebonne in 7-5A action.
BASEBALL TEAMS OF THE WEEK
Three area teams were extra hot over the last week. Assumption has won five of its last six games to get to 6-7 on the season, South Terrebonne has won five games in a row to get to 12-5 overall, and Thibodaux (8-8) has taken its last four games heading into the start of district play.
SOFTBALL TEAMS OF THE WEEK
St. James improved to 9-3 this week with three wins at its Spring Swing Tournament, and Central Lafourche has won three games in a row to improve to 3-2 in District 7-5A.
The Vandebilt Lady Terriers also had a stellar week after winning three games at the Sulphur Tournament over the weekend and extending their winning streak to five games.
BASEBALL STARS OF THE WEEK
--South Terrebonne's Seth Cadiere went 4-for-4 with four RBIs in a win over Houma Christian.
--South Lafourche's Norry Galjour was 2-for-4 with a walk-off homer in a win over Vandebilt.
--Trey Naquin of Thibodaux worked six innings and allowed four hits in a win over Vandebilt and added the game-winning hit later in the week in a victory over rival E.D. White.
--Central Lafourche's Stephen Potter threw a two-hit, complete game and added a homer and three RBIs in a 4-1 win over Riverside Academy.
SOFTBALL STARS OF THE WEEK
--Thibodaux's Meghan Hanley came through with two clutch hits to lead her team past Terrebonne.
--Madison Rodrigue of E.D. White tossed a one-hitter and struck out four in a win over Port Allen.
--Vandebilt's Leah Bergeron struck out 14 and allowed two hits in a 6-0 win over Academy of Our Lady.
--Alyssa Bush tossed Ellender to wins over South Terrebonne and East St. John.
