Prep Baseball and Softball Report

With two weeks remaining in the softball regular season, there are several key games for teams vying to make the playoffs.

With only district champions or co-champs guaranteed to make the playoffs, there are a number of softball teams looking to improve their power ratings in hopes of earning a wild-card berth.

In District 7-5A,  Central Lafourche travels to play Thibodaux on Tuesday. Both teams are outside of Class 5A’s Top 32, so the loser of this game will have more of mountain to climb.

H.L. Bourgeois is in Class 5A’s Top 32, so a win over struggling South Lafourche on Tuesday is imperative for the Lady Braves playoff hopes.

In District 8-4A softball, Vandebilt Catholic can wrap up the district title and a playoff berth in its home game against Morgan City on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, E.D. White Catholic looks to climb up the Class 3A softball power ratings with a District 7-3A home game against St. Charles Catholic.

In District 7-5A baseball, first place will be on the line when Central Lafourche travels to play New Iberia on Tuesday.

Both the Trojans and Yellow Jackets have 5-0 district records.

The race in District 8-4A is wide open and there is a critical two-game series between South Terrebonne and Assumption this week.

The Gators will host the Mustangs on Tuesday and the two teams will play again in Napoleonville on Thursday.

Houma Christian can get in the District 10-1A baseball race with two home games this week.

The Warriors host Crescent City today, the host St. Martin’s on Tuesday.

"We fell apart again. That's two games in a row we fall apart. My honest opinion is, (South Lafourche) got a big head. They think they're better than they really are, and you can put that in the paper. If we want to go to the playoffs, we've got to be able to hit pitchers like (Stephen) Potter. If you want to go further than one and done, you have to hit those pitchers," —South Lafourche coach Jared Landrum after a loss to Central Lafourche on Thursday.
