NAPOLEONVILLE — Thibodaux High did not let an early disappointment deter them on Thursday at the Assumption Lady Mustang Tournament.
After suffering a close loss to Riverside earlier in the day, the Lady Tigers bounced back with a 54-44 win over host team Assumption.
The quick turnaround, however, did not bother Thibodaux coach Damon Robinson.
“We’re in shape,” Robinson said. “We condition a lot. So to actually come out there and play, they’re in shape to do it. We might have dead legs tomorrow, who knows, but we’re in shape.”
An early three-point-play by Amanada Gianelloni would give the Lady Mustangs an 8-3 lead.
A basket by Tiah Larvadain with 1:35 remaining in the opening period extended the Assumption’s lead to six.
Thibodaux’s Elise Plaisance would respond with back-to-back baskets to cut the lead to two, but Kevreion Ward scored at the buzzer gave Assumption a 13-9 lead after the first quarter.
The Lady Tigers hit 8-of-15 free throws in the second quarter, outscoring Assumption 17-9 in the period. Plaisance scored 12 points as Thibodaux went into halftime up 26-22.
“She’s a good basketball player,” Robinson said of Plaisance, “She played lights out in this game, and she’s getting better every game so that’s exciting for us.”
