The Central Lafourche Trojans employed their entire offensive repertoire during Friday night's District 7-I match against Terrebonne,
The Trojans effort resulted in 21 scoring attempts that came from every angle of the field. Bud Autin accounted for six of Central's shots on goal, but his attempted assist in the closing seconds provided the difference in the game.
With less than a minute remaining, Adams tried to cross the ball from 35 yards out to teammates waiting in front of the net. The pass held in the air long enough to elude Terrebonne goalie Ross Breaux while making it's way through the top right corner of the net to give the Trojans a 1-0 win.
"He was trying to cross it, and his face dropped as soon as it hit his foot," Central Lafourche coach Simon Badeaux said. "He didn't think he sent the ball where he wanted to but he definitely got the job done. We'll take the result."
With the win, the Trojans (9-1-3 overall) improved to 7-0 in district.
Autin had two early scoring attempts from point-blank range, while teammates Remy Authement and Benjamin Lirette attempted five shots on goal apiece. All from were from inside the box.
Breaux countered with 18 saves for Terrebonne.
"He played his heart out," Badeaux said of the Terrebonne goalie. "We came at him with everything. We attacked up the baseline. We slid in front of the goal. We tried set piece after set piece and corner kick after corner kick. I was standing at an angle behind Budd (Autin) when he kicked his in. There was really nothing he could have done. There isn't a goalie that could have blocked that."
Central Lafourche goalie Forest Verdin notched two of his 14 saves in the 38th minute of the second half. Fernando Galindo collected a corner kick and attempted a shot from 15 feet. Verdin deflected it then caught the scoring attempt off of the foot of Raul Contreras, who had gathered the rebound seconds earlier. The scenario proved to be Terrebonne's last scoring opportunity.
"Ross really did a great job," Terrebonne coach Tommy Manor said. "This is his first year playing that position and he is doing a tremendous job for us. Everyone one of these guys stepped up (Friday). To go against a team like Central Lafourche and play as well as they did is really impressive. We gave them everything we could and everything they could handle. Both team left everything on the field."
