Houma Christian sweeps Grand Isle in hoops


The boys and girls basketball teams at Class 1A Houma Christian swept past Class C Grand Isle on Saturday in nondistrict play from Grand Isle.

In boys action, the Warriors won 45-35 to improve to 13-8 overall.

Houma Christian is ranked seventh in Class 1A and led 14-9 after the first quarter, 29-14 at halftime and 40-20 at the end of the third quarter.

Nate Frye led the Warriors with 16 points, and John Broussard and Keamon Sims each added eight points.

In the girls game, the Lady Warriors improved to 6-6 with the 43-14 victory.

Alicia Johnson scored 13 points, and Kira Coleman and Breanna Stubbs each added six points for Houma Christian.

The Lady Warriors led 9-3 after the first quarter, 21-6 at halftime and 33-7 at the end of the third quarter.

 

SOUTH LAFOURCHE 46,

WESTGATE 33 (GIRLS)

At New Iberia on Friday night, the Lady Tarpons improved to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in District 7-5A.

South Lafourche got 17 points from Jodi Loupe and nine points from Brooke Sampey.

The Lady Tarpons led 24-16 at halftime, and Westgate fell to 9-16 and 1-7 in district.

H.L. BOURGEOIS 1 (BOYS)

At Houma, the Braves trailed 2-0 at halftime and got a goal from Blake Dorion in falling to 4-6 in District 7-I with the loss.

The Braves play Terrebonne at 7 p.m. Monday at Tom B. Smith Stadium in Houma in district action.

 

NEW IBERIA 2,

H.L. BOURGEOIS 0 (GIRLS)

At Houma, the Lady Braves trailed 1-0 at halftime and fell to 11-6-2 overall and 6-5 in District 7-I.

H.L. Bourgeois will host E.D. White Catholic at 5 p.m. Monday at Tom B. Smith Stadium in Houma in nondistrict action.
