Terrebonne girls pick up key District 7-5A win

The Terrebonne Lady Tigers needed every second to pull out a 53-51 win over Thibodaux in Friday's District 7-5A game in Thibodaux.
With the score tied at 51, Terrebonne's Waneka Robinson scored on a layup with 58 seconds left to take a 53-51 lead.
Thibodaux had several chances to tie the game, but Terrebonne's Darian Dees blocked a shot our of bounds with five seconds left. Thibodaux's Miantte Guidry attempted a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but her shot rimmed out to preserve Terrebonne's win.
"In the second half, we started to see the ball better, passed it more effectively and got better shots," Terrebonne coach Gus Brown said. "As a result, our defense stepped when they needed to and that was big. It was a good high school game."
With the score tied at 7 after the first quarter, Thibodaux (14-10 overall, 5-4 in district) pulled away in the second quarter. Eris Stove (18 points) made two free throws at the end of the quarter to give Thibodaux a 26-16 halftime lead.
Midway in the third quarter, Terrebonne (16-11, 6-3 in district) used a 9-0 run to climb back in the game. Tyronneka Howard started the run with a layup, and Robinson (26 points) ended it with a jumper to tie the score at 30 with 2:09 left in the quarter.
Thibodaux took lead again with 30 seconds left in third, but Howard completed a three-point play to give Terrebonne a 35-32 lead with 30 seconds left. Hannah Hebert's jumper made it a 35-34 game heading into the fourth quarter.
The teams traded points before Terrebonne made the plays down the stretch for the win.
"This has been the story of our season," Thibodaux coach Damon Robinson said. "We had a good lead going into the third quarter, but they were able to shut us down. We have had 10-point leads in seven of our 10 losses."
Elise Plaisance added 13 points for Thibodaux.
THIBODAUX 59, TERREBONNE 31 (BOYS)
At Thibodaux, Tylor Jones scored 16 points and Trevon Cole and Donte Johnson each scored 13 points apiece to lead Thibodaux in Friday's game.
Thibodaux (11-14, 2-7 in district) led 15-7 after the first quarter, 23-11 at halftime and 36-20 after three quarters.
Reggie Theriot led Terrebonne (11-16, 3-7 in district) with seven points.
WESTGATE 90, CENTRAL LAFOURCHE 59 (GIRLS)
At New Iberia, John Williams scored 23 points for the Trojans in Friday's District 7-5A game.
Also scoring in double figures were Quade Williams (11) and Wynton Young (11).
WESTGATE 47, CENTRAL LAFOURCHE 45 (GIRLS)
At New Iberia, Kierranika Duncan scored 18 points for the Lady Trojans (14-10, 3-6 in district) in Friday's District 7-5A loss.
COUNTRY DAY 63, HOUMA CHRISTIAN 48 (BOYS)
At Metairie, Keamon Sims led the Warriors with 14 points in Friday's District 10-1A loss.
Also scoring in double figures for Houma Christian (14-9, 5-2 in district) were Nate Frye (12) and Guy Campbell (10).
Country Day led 15-14 after the first quarter, 34-17 at haltime and 52-30 after the three quarter.
COUNTRY DAY 27, HOUMA CHRISTIAN 20 (BOYS)
At Metairie, Country Day led 10-6 after the first quarter and kept it for the remainder of game.
Alicia Johnson led the Lady Warriors (7-7, 3-4 in district) with eight points.
COVENANT CHRISTIAN 58, BERWICK 42 (BOYS)
At Berwick, the Lions led 14-10 after the first quarter and extended it 32-20 at halftime and 47-36 after three quarters on Friday.
Datren Williams led the Lions (16-4) with 26 points. Mark George added 13 points and seven steals and Jordan MCKay finished with 12 points and eight assists.
