UPDATED: 13 local teams qualify for state basketball playoffs

Making it to the state playoffs is the goal of every high school basketball team.
But each year, only a select few have an opportunity to achieve that goal.
On Thursday, 13 area teams found out that they will have a chance to make that dream a reality as the Louisiana High School Athletic Association released playoff brackets in all classes for boys and girls basketball.
Locally, six boys teams and seven girls teams earned a spot in the state playoffs.
The bi-district playoff matchups are:
BOYS
CLASS 5A
No. 23 H.L. Bourgeois at No. 10 Ruston (6 p.m. Tuesday)
No. 27 South Lafourche at No. 6 New Iberia (7 p.m. Tuesday)
CLASS 4A
No. 19 Helen Cox at No. 14 Vandebilt Catholic (7 p.m. Tuesday)
No. 23 Ellender at No. 10 Opelousas (7 p.m. Tuesday)
CLASS 3A
No. 19 North Vermillion at No. 14 St. James (6:30 p.m. Tuesday)
CLASS 1A
No. 25 Montgomery vs. No. 8 Houma Christian at E.D. White Catholic High in Thibodaux (7 p.m. Tuesday)
GIRLS
CLASS 5A
No. 23 Thibodaux at No. 10 Scotlandville (6 p.m. Monday)
No. 27 Terrebonne at No. 6 Sulphur (6 p.m. Monday)
CLASS 4A
No. 30 West Ouachita at No. 3 Vandebilt Catholic (6 p.m. Monday)

Bi-district playoff games must be completed by Monday for the girls and Tuesday for the boys. The playoff’s regional round must be completed by Feb. 21 for the girls and Feb. 22 for the boys. The quarterfinals must be completed by Feb. 25 for the girls and Feb. 26 for the boys.
Under the LHSAA’s playoff format for all classes, the boys and girls semifinal games will be played from Feb. 28-March 2 at three locations — Southeastern Louisiana University’s University Center in Hammond, the CenturyLink in Bossier City and the Lake Charles Civic Center.
The boys and girls state championship games will be played from March 6-9 at the University of Louisiana-Monroe’s Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe.
