Cardinals topple Morgan City, 6-0


The E.D. White Catholic baseball team shutdown the Morgan City offense in a 6-0 nondistrict road win over the Tigers on Tuesday night.

Cardinals pithing combined to strikeout 14 batters and walk none as E.D. White moved to 2-0 overall, and Morgan City fell to 3-1 overall.

Payton Coddou (four innings, seven strikeouts, no walks) got the victory on the mound for E.D. White, and Justin Theriot and Logan Barbera combined to work three innings of scoreless relief.

Brett Duet (4-for-4, double) and Coddou (2-for-3) led the Cardinals at the plate.

RIVERSIDE ACADEMY 10, SOUTH TERREBONNE 0 (BASEBALL)

At Reserve, the Gators allowed just two infield hits, but fell to 0-5 with the nondistrict loss.

Joey Brunet (0-1) suffered the defeat on the mound, and Caleb Pellegrin, Alex Salassi and Matt Benoit each had a single for the Gators.

BASEBALL GAMES POSTPONED

Wet fields kept a few local baseball games from being played on Tuesday. Berwick will now play at Thibodaux in nondistrict action at 6 tonight.

Central Lafourche will now travel to Hahnville for a nondistrict game at 3:30 p.m. today, and Hahnville will now play at Central Lafourche at 6 p.m. on March 21.

The Lusher Charter at Ellender and Houma Christian at Highland Baptist nondistrict games were also not played on Tuesday. No makeup dates have been set for those contests. The Vandebilt at Terrebonne nondistrict baseball game was also not played because of wet field conditions on Tuesday, and unless the teams can manage to find an open date sometime this season, it will not be made up.

 

CENTRAL LAFOURCHE 9, TERREBONNE 1 (SOFTBALL)

At Houma, the Lady Trojans improved to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in District 7-5A. Jordan Robichaux got the victory in the circle after allowing five hits, four strikeouts and a walk.

Raven LeBlanc (two hits, two RBIs), Emily Duet (hit, two RBIs, stolen base), Kaylee Cole (hit, two RBIs, stolen base) and Kelci Adams (hit, RBI, stolen base) led the Lady Trojans offensively.

Terrebonne fell to 2-2 and 0-1 in district.

WESTGATE 6, SOUTH LAFOURCHE 2 (SOFTBALL)

At New Iberia, the Lady Tigers improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in District 7-5A, and the Lady Tarpons fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in district.

DESTREHAN 9, THIBODAUX 1 (SOFTBALL)

At Thibodaux, the Lady Tigers fell to 1-4 with the nondistrict loss. Katelyn Cortez had a hit and a run for Thibodaux, and Kayla Bland had six strikeouts and suffered the loss in the circle.

VANDEBILT CATHOLIC 12, CATHOLIC-NEW IBERIA 1 (SOFTBALL)

At New Iberia, the Lady Terriers improved to 3-2 overall and got 14 strikeouts and no walks from pitcher Nora Keehn, who got the nondistrict victory. Keehn allowed two hits and was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

Vandebilt had 16 hits and other offensive leaders were Makelle Peña (3-for-5), Kristen Kurtz (two RBIs), Erin Crane (3-for-4, two RBIs), MacKenzie Rousseau (3-run homer) and Allie Boudreaux (2-for-4).

SOUTH TERREBONNE SOFTBALL SWEEPS GRAND ISLE

At Grand Isle, the Lady Gators improved to 2-2 overall with a nondistrict doubleheader sweep of Grand Isle.

The games lasted three innings. In a 20-0 win in Game 1, Courtney Clement got the win in the circle, and Sarah LeBouef (3-for-3) and Kelsey Pellegrin (2-for-3) led South Terrebonne at the plate.

In a 19-1 win in Game 2, Alexis Nelton (2-for-2) got the win in the circle, and Pellegrin (1-for-1, homer) and Taylor Dupre (1-for-1, homer, five RBIs) led South Terrebonne at the plate.

ASCENSION CATHOLIC 12, E.D. WHITE CATHOLIC 1  (SOFTBALL)

At Donaldsonville, the Lady Cardinals fell to 1-3 overall with Tuesday's loss. The game was stopped after five innings.

Madison Rodrigue suffered the loss in the circle for the Lady Cardinals, giving up nine hits and striking out three.

Sydney Bordis drove in E.D. White's lone run with an RBI single, scoring Kali Clement. The Lady Cardinals finished with four hits and committed seven errors.

SOFTBALL GAMES POSTPONED

Also on Tuesday, a handful of local softball games were postponed because of soggy field conditions.

In District 7-5A action, H.L. Bourgeois will travel to New Iberia at 4 today, and in nondistrict play East Ascension is at Assumption at 4 today, Ellender will play at Houma Christian at 4 p.m. March 13 and no makeup date has been set for the White Castle at St. James game set for Tuesday, which was postponed because White Castle could not secure transportation to the game, or for Tuesday's nondistrict matchup between Covenant Christian Academy and Patterson.
