Cardinals win pair at tournament

The E.D. White Catholic Cardinals improved to 6-0 overall with wins over H.L. Bourgeois (12-2) and West Feliciana (11-0) on Saturday at the E.D. White Catholic-Vandebilt Catholic Classic in Thibodaux.

Justin Theriot picked up the win for the Cardinals against the Braves, giving up two hits and two runs in five innings. Theriot also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Jace Toups also went 4-for-4.

Against West Feliciana, Payton Coddou pitched a complete-game five hitter with eight strikeouts. Theriot went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Logan Barbera and Brett Duet each had a pair of hits.

Other tournament scores from Saturday were Edna Karr over Assumption (14-11) and Brusly over Thibodaux (6-0).


At the Ponchatoula Tournament, the Tarpons fell to 1-4 overall with losses to Isidore Newman (7-3) and Ponchatoula (9-5) on Saturday.

Against Newman, the Tarpons led 1-0 after five innings before giving up seven runs in the final two innings. Norry Galjour led the Tarpons' offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Nicholas Basulito suffered the loss on the mound, giving up three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Stephen Robert pitched the final 2/3 inning.

In the second game, Ponchatoula raced out to a 6-2 lead after three innings and never looked back. Cullen Matherne suffered the loss on the mound, giving up five earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and a walk in three innings. Joby Lasseigne pitched the final three innings of relief. Robert led the Tarpons' offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.


At the Hanson Tournament, the Warriors improved to 3-3 overall with wins over Ridgewood (11-0) and Loreauville (11-9) on Saturday.

Against Ridgewood, Drake Battaglia pitched four innings, giving up one hit with three walks and two strikeouts. Carson Hebert pitched one inning in relief. Offensive leaders were Dylan Authement (1-for-1, two steals) and Dakota Durks (1-for-2, three RBIs, two steals). Drake Battaglia, Jacob Mathieu, Sam Trosclair and Devin Battaglia each went 1-for-3.

In the second game, the Warriors handed Loreauville its first loss of the season. Authement led the Warriors offense by going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Other offensive leaders were Devin Battaglie (2-for-3, RBI), Drake Battaglia (1-for-2, stolen base) and John Broussard (1-for-3, two RBIs). Mathieu (1-for-3, two RBIs) started the game, allowing five runs on one hit with seven walks and two strikeouts in three innings. Connor Bates went the final four innings for the win, giving up four runs on two hits with six walks and six strikeouts.
