Cardinals roll past Thibodaux, 11-1

The E.D. White Catholic Cardinals were clicking on all cylinders on Friday night.

With solid pitching and a balanced offensive attack, the Cardinals cruised to an 11-1 win over the Thibodaux Tigers in Friday's action at the Tiger-Cardinal Classic 2013.

"It was a good game," E.D. White coach Shane Trosclair said. "Offensively, defensively, on the mound, all phases of the game are where we need to be, and that's good going into the middle of the season."

The Cardinals (12-1 overall) started quickly, as Nick Falgout led off the game with a triple and scored on Logan Barbera's sacrifice fly. E.D. White increased its lead to 2-0 in the third inning on Justin Theriot's bloop single, scoring Brett Duet (1-for-2, RBI). Barbera went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Theriot finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.

E.D, White put the game away with a three-run fourth inning for a 5-0 lead. Duet hit a two-run single, and Falgout scored on a bases-loaded walk.

Thibodaux (5-7) scored its lone run when Garrett Molaison (2-for-3, RBI) hit an RBI single, scoring Bryce Zeringue to make the score 5-1.

The Cardinals scored two more runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Payton Caddou (1-for-3, RBI) and Michael Waguespack (2-for-3, RBI).

E.D. White capped off the scoring with a four-run seventh inning. The Cardinals scored two runs on an error, and Frank Robichaux (1-for-1, two RBIs) added a two-run single.

"E.D. White's pitching is very good," Thibodaux coach Darrell Hebert said. "We took too many pitches. They hit the ball. We didn't pitch very well. That's three sophomore pitchers that pitched against us. We just didn't do the job."

Theriot picked up the win for E.D. White, giving up one run on two hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Jake Murry suffered the loss for the Tigers, giving up four runs on four hits with three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
