UPDATED: HLB's McDonald wins track MVP at Green Devil Relays


H.L. Bourgeois' Brandon McDonald won the track MVP title at the Plaquemine Green Devil Relays on Thursday.

McDonald, a sophomore, placed first overall in the boys' 3,200-meter run (12 minutes, 51.10 seconds) at the event. He also finished second in the 1,600-meter (4:57.20) and third in the 800-meter (2:12.88) runs.

H.L. Bourgeois' boys track team, which claimed the runner-up title at the Green Devil relays, got a first-place finish from James Olin in the discus with a throw of 108 feet, 2 inches.

Other top finishes for the Braves were Tylone Johnson in the boys' 400-meters (second, 51.95), Claude Verdin in the shot put (second, 42-10), the 1,600-meter relay team (second, 3:36.61), Josh Visser in the 3,200-meters (third, 13:34.77) and the 1,600-meters (third, 5:15.47), Richard Leggett in the high jump (third, 5-6) and Michael Flakes in the 100-meters (fourth, 11.18).

H.L. Bourgeois' girls team, which placed fourth overall in team standings, got first-place finishes from Daisha Randolph in the shot put (30-1 2/4) and the 1,600-meter relay team (4:19.43).

Raeven Scott took second in the high jump (5-0), Jeryn Babineaux was third in the javelin (73-feet), Cherish Use was third in the 1,600-meters (7:08.65), Brittany Soileau was third in the 400-meter run at 1:05.70, Stephanie Coleman placed fourth in the 400-meters at 1:07.92 and the 800-meter relay team placed fourth at 1:32.27 for the Lady Braves.
