Lady Terriers claim title at Breast Cancer Invitational

The Vandebilt Catholic girls swim team picked a good time to have one of its performances of the season.

On Saturday, the Lady Terriers competed with 11 other Metro New Orleans High School Swim League teams at the Breast Cancer Invitational and brought home the team championship. Vandebilt scored 362 points to claim the team title, edging Mount Carmel (357), Destrehan (310) and Dominican (305).

Despite not having any first first-place swimmers, the Lady Terriers were paced by several Top 3 performers. Caroline Haydel placed in two events -- second in the 200-yard individual medley and third i the 100-yard butterfly, and Hana Calhoun also placed third in the 100-yard freestyle.

Vandebilt's 400-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay teams also placed second in its respective event.

On the boys side, Vandebilt placed fourth with 195 points. The Terriers did not have any swimmers finish in the top three.



The South Lafourche swim teams continued their dominating performance last week with wins over South Terrebonne (118-48 girls and 132-38 boys) in a three-team meet with H.L. Bourgeois.

Winning swimmers for the Lady Tarpons were Jordan Galliano (100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke), Natalie Dufrene (200-yard freestyle), Jada Gauthreaux (50-yard freestyle), Britlynn Chiasson (100-yard freestyle), Tristan Plaisance (100-yard breaststroke) and the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.

The Tarpons swept the meet by winning all 11 events. South Lafourches first-place swimmers were Cody Guidry (200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke), Nicholas Guidry (200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke), Dominic Pitre (50-yard freestyle), Braxton Boudra (100-yard butterfly), Jean Pitre (100-yard freestyle), Hunter Crochet (500-yard freestyle) and the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.

South Terrebonne rebounded with wins over H.L. Bourgeois (89-67 girls and 89-78 boys). Payton Gold was the lone South Terrebonne swimmer to post wins, finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley.


Central Lafourche, Terrebonne, Ellender and Patterson all picked up wins at last week's four-team meet at the Bayou Black Pool.

Central Lafourche picked up three wins -- 106-11 over Patterson girls, 82-81 over Terrebonne girls and 81.5-29.5 over Patterson boys. Other winning teams were Terrebonne boys (92-58 over Central Lafourche), Ellender girls (22-17 over Patterson) and Patterson boys (43-11 over Ellender).

Winning swimmers for the Central Lafourche were Amber Bonvillain (girls 200-meter freestyle and girls 100-meter freestyle), Sara Breakfield (girls 50-meter freestyle and girls 100-meter backstroke), Felicite Robichaux (girls 100-meter butterfly), Brooke Lagarde (girls 100-breaststroke), girls 200-meter freestyle relay team, girls 200-yard medley relay team, Ridge Benoit (boys 200-meter individual medley and boys 100-yard butterfly), Seth Bankston (boys 400-meter freestyle) and boys 200-meter freestyle relay team.

Terrebonne's first-place swimmers were Savanah LeBouef (girls 400-meter freestyle), girls 400-meter freestyle relay team, Christopher Grace (boys 50-yard freestyle and boys 100-meter breaststroke), Tanner LeBouef (boys 200-meter freestyle), Alec Adams (boys 100-yard freestyle), Jonathan Dufrene (boys 100-yard backstroke), boys 200-meter medley relay team and boys 400-meter freestyle relay teams.


The Thibodaux boys and girls swim teams fell to Berwick in last week's swim league action at the Morgan City Pool. Berwick took both meets by scores of 87-47 girls and 84-40 boys.

Winning swimmers for Thibodaux were Karlie Trosclair (girls 50-yard freestyle and girls 100-yard breaststroke), Kristen Plaisance (girls 100-yard butterfly), Logan LeBlanc (boys 200-yard freestyle and boys 100-yard butterfly) and boys 200-yard freestyle relay team.
