Tarpons win two games at tourney


The South Lafourche Tarpons baseball team won two games at the Sports Medicine Center of Thibodaux Regional Tiger/Cardinal Baseball Classic on Saturday.

South Lafourche moved to 6-6 overall with a 4-2 win over South Terrebonne and a 7-5 win over Assumption.

Against the Gators, the Tarpons scored a run in the second, a run in the third and two in the second and had four hits and two errors.

Daniel Griffin (1-1) got the win after working six-plus innings and allowing two hits, striking out five, walking seven and allowing an earned run.

Cullen Matherne worked in relief and allowed a hit, struck out one and walked one.

Leading hitters in the game for the Tarpons were Derian Theriot (double), Stephen Robert (hit), JJ Jimenez (homer, two runs, RBI, walk) and Donovan Uzee (1-for-1, RBI).

Against the Mustangs, the Tarpons scored four runs in the first, a run in the fourth and two in the sixth and had six hits and made two errors.

Alec Danos (six innings, six strikeouts, three walks, eight hits, four earned runs) got the win and Justin Saucillo (inning, hit) got the save.

Cy Griffin (2-for-4, run, two RBIs) and Dominic Pitre (hit, run, two RBIs, walk) led the Tarpons at the plate.
